Wholesale TC guides / What TC is
Tissue culture plants are lab-grown plants that start in a sterile gel inside a sealed flask. A flask is a small plastic cup or jar. The young plants inside are plantlets. Labs sell them as starter stock for grow-out, not as finished retail plants in soil. Growers also call them TC plants.
Rare Root Labs sells wholesale TC to U.S. growers from Easley, South Carolina. We ship inside the United States only. This page explains what TC is, why growers buy it, how a flask differs from a plug, and how to order from our two lists.
Tissue culture is a lab method. Techs take a small piece of a plant and grow it in a sterile vessel. That vessel is the flask. The gel in the flask is agar. Agar is a firm, sterile food gel. Plantlets sit in that gel under high humidity and filtered light, closed off from dust and most pests while they multiply.
A flask is not a finished pot. Plantlets are small. They still need to come out of the gel, get rinsed, and grow in real media. Taking them out of the flask is called deflasking. After that, you wean them from high humidity. That step is acclimation.
If you want the day-of open, rinse, and first potting steps, use Deflasking tissue culture step by step. For the humidity wean, use How to acclimate tissue culture plants.
Wholesale buyers use TC as starter stock they can grow into liners or finished plants. Three reasons come up most:
TC is still young tissue. You must deflask and acclimate. Plan dome space before the box lands. For problems after planting, see TC plant troubleshooting.
These are three different stages. Mix them up and you order the wrong product.
We run two wholesale TC lists. They are not the same stock. Both ship inside the United States only, from Easley, South Carolina.
This is the main catalog. Shop the cart on the full wholesale TC list or by genus, such as Alocasia and Monstera. Mix and match. Minimum order is $500. Lead time is about 2 weeks.
This is a different list. It is not the import catalog. Order with a purchase order on U.S. TC stock. Minimum order is $250. Shipping is faster than the import list when items are in stock.
Need rooted trays instead of flasks? Use the plugs page. That path is not TC in agar.
Treat arriving TC as culture-stage stock. Do not set flasks on an open bench and walk away.
Before you order / when the box lands:
They are lab-grown plantlets that start in a sterile gel (agar) inside a sealed flask. Growers buy them as starter stock and grow them out after deflasking and acclimation.
TC plants is short for tissue culture plants. Same thing: young plantlets from a sterile flask, sold for grow-out, not as finished retail pots.
A flask is the small sealed cup or jar the plantlets live in. The gel inside is agar. You open the flask, rinse the gel, and pot the plantlets. That day-of step is deflasking.
No. TC plantlets are in flasks with agar. Plugs and liners are rooted trays already out of gel. Shop flasks on the TC lists. Shop rooted trays on the plugs page.
Use the import catalog for $500 mix-and-match orders (about 2 weeks) at the full TC list or genus pages. Use the U.S. stock page for a $250 purchase order when you want the faster list. We ship inside the United States only.
Stage a dome and fine media, deflask (open, rinse, first potting), then wean humidity. Use the deflasking guide for day one and the acclimation guide for the wean.
No. Rare Root Labs ships wholesale TC within the United States only from Easley, South Carolina.
